EDUCATION
I've worked in education and social work since 1972 and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have a Master's in Infant/Parent Development from Bank Street College of Education in NYC and a Master's in Social Work from Loyola University in Chicago.
MORE THAN ONE SIDE
As a social worker and a private therapist, I've learned a lot about human relationships and the development of the self. From my work as a teacher of young children, a teacher of teachers, and a social worker in school and non-profit agency settings, I've learned that there's often more to the story than only one side can tell.
COMPASSION AND NONJUDGEMENT
I've discovered how to accompany individuals and groups as they work through the challenges and difficulties they may confront in their lives. I've used my capacity to listen with care, compassion, and nonjudgment to support children and adults as parents, teachers, or therapists as they examine themselves, their relationships, or their professional practice.
WIFE AND MOTHER
My experiences as a wife and mother were not unlike that of many others. Sometimes, I was unsure of myself and worried a lot. I felt my children's struggles deeply and made a continuous effort to grow and learn as a parent and a person along with them.
MARRIAGE
I'm fortunate to have been married to the same man for 52 years. That's not to say our relationship doesn't have its ups and downs, and we sometimes need to work through our differences. I'm grateful that our love and respect for each other are grounded in a friendship that has continued for many years.
PROGENY AND ONE COCKAPOO
We are parents of three adult children, each living their own life. Because they don't live close to us, we stay connected by phone, FaceTime, and Zoom calls. We are also grandparents of three beautiful grandchildren, one of life's great gifts. We also have a six-year-old, red-haired cockapoo named Ruby that we fawn over.
WHY
I've created this website and am writing a weekly blog because I want to draw from my storehouse of professional and life experiences to be a support, a guide, a sounding board, a fellow problem–solver, and a compassionate listener for others. My blog represents another format for reaching out to parents with thoughts to reflect on and steer them toward sought-after understandings and to coach parents as they delve into their concerns about themselves and their children and as parents determine how to respond.
